The German government commissioned British architect David Chipperfield, together with New York-based KARO Architects and Paratus Group, to convert the former Goethe House at 1014 Fifth Avenue into a new platform for trans-Atlantic dialogue and exchange.

Named after the address of its event space on Fifth Avenue, 1014 offers trans-Atlantic perspectives on today’s pressing global topics in a variety of formats: multi-faceted projects, exhibitions, performances, and talks. In New York City, a global center for culture and innovation, 1014 invites experts and creatives from both sides of the Atlantic into a historic townhouse provided by the Federal Republic of Germany across from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Federal Republic of Germany strongly believes in the importance of trans-Atlantic cooperation and holistic approaches to foreign policy, including arts and culture. It therefore continues to facilitate trans-Atlantic encounters and, eventually, a residency program, and supports the work of 1014.
