EXHIBITION: Parallel Worlds

  • 1014 - space for ideas 1014 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10028 United States (map)

The Peaceful Revolution of 1989 led to the Fall of the Berlin Wall and culminated in German unification and the vision of a "new age of democracy, peace and unity" (Charter of Paris 1990). Today, the cohesive power of this vision has diminished and democratic institutions and practices come under attack in Germany and Europe as well as in the United States.

1014 presented the works of Berlin-based artists Stefan Roloff and Harf Zimmermann. They demonstrate the fear instilled by the physical presence of the Berlin Wall, as cultivated by the wall-regime (Roloff) and the regime‘s inner pettiness (Zimmermann). Living on opposite sides of the Berlin Wall, Roloff and Zimmermann spent most of their lives not knowing about each other’s work.

In cooperation with the German Consulate general New York.
