Reflecting on the 2025 Spring Season

June 25, 2025

This spring was a season of collaboration, innovation, and further transformation at 1014. As the trans-Atlantic partnership continues to evolve in new ways, we’ve deepened our dialogue through engaging formats across disciplines. With 22 events this season, we created spaces where our community could come together to exchange ideas and navigate global shifts.

Over the past few weeks, we ventured into creativity at the intersections of art, society, and technology. We welcomed a record number of 250 guests for the premiere of 4711 – Intercourse of Ghosts, a multilingual opera that reimagines the correspondence between Franz Kafka and Milena Jesenská for today’s world. In the immersive performance Jur A** Itch Park, we explored the collaboration between AI and live-art. And with our new series, Anatomy of an Artwork, we offered a fresh way to experience contemporary art with a trans-Atlantic edge.

Embracing an international scope, in Transactional Foreign Policies and the End of Liberal Order? and From Conclave to Global Stage respectively, we asked timely and critical questions: Is the liberal world order giving way to a more transactional approach in international relations? What might we expect from the first American Pope, and how will his leadership shape global dynamics?

Sustainability, particularly through the lens of architecture, remained a key focus. Transformers: Architecture and the Energy Transition examined how design can reduce the energy use and emissions footprint of buildings—through renewable energy, smart technology, and human-centered approaches.

Throughout the season, we responded to fast-changing global developments in our virtual series Hot Topics, Cold Realities, engaging experts from both sides of the Atlantic on issues such as migration, tariffs, and sovereign debt.

The 1014 team is deeply grateful for your support. Thanks to your generosity—and the generous matching contributions from our board—our spring fundraiser has raised $6,264.32, generating a total of $12,492.64 in revenue so far. If you’ve enjoyed being part of our work, we kindly invite you to consider making an end-of-season gift before our spring campaign closes on June 30.

If now isn’t the right time for a contribution, we would be delighted to speak with you about joining our Legacy Society—an impactful way to support our mission into the future.

You can also sponsor specific events and be recognized during the event and on all marketing materials. If you are interested, please contact Katja Wiesbrock Donovan, Executive Director: k.donovan@1014.nyc

Wishing you a joyful summer, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
