This program is a collaboration of the Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy (CFFP), HÁWAR.help.e.V. and 1014

At the sidelines of UNGA High-Level Week, Düzen Tekkal and Kristina Lunz, together with 1014, invite you to a high-level conversation on Women’s Health as a Human Right.

Women’s health has long faced gaps in attention and resources, often influenced by social, geographic, or systemic challenges. In fragile and crisis-affected settings, health systems are among the first to be strained, and women and girls are often disproportionately affected. Yet even in more stable environments, reproductive health, access to contraception, safe maternal care, and treatment for trauma-related conditions can remain limited, despite their importance for overall well-being.

Together, Düzen Tekkal (Co-Founder and CEO of HÁWAR.help), Kristina Lunz (Co-Founder and CEO of the Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy), Dr. Stellah Bosire (Founding Executive Director of the Africa Center for Health Systems and Gender Justice), and Prof. Dr. Mandy Mangler (Chief Physician for Gynaecology and Obstetrics at Vivantes Auguste-Victoria Clinic & Vivantes Klinikum Neukölln, Professor of Women’s Health and Obstetrics) will explore how to place women’s health at the center of human rights, drawing on insights from front-line stories, medical practice, and policy. From crisis zones to global cities, the discussion will highlight that women's health is essential for strong, healthy, and resilient societies.

Biographies

Düzen Tekkal is an author, journalist, filmmaker, and human rights activist. Together with her sisters, she founded the human rights organization HÁWAR.help e.V., a human rights organization founded on the ashes of the Yazidi genocide. Today, they implement development and education programs in Iraq, Syria and Germany, as well as international awareness-raising and education initiatives and political work – including the revolution in Iran. She also founded GermanDream – Germany’s foremost educational movement for democracy and participation. They empower individuals to become agents of change and foster a culture of respect, diversity, and social justice. Düzen is Yazidi, Kurdish and German and has been honored with numerous awards, including the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Kristina Lunz is an entrepreneur, author, and human rights defender. She is the CEO and co-founder of the non-profit Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy (CFFP), launched in 2018. Just a year later, Forbes recognized her as one of Europe’s “30 Under 30.” In 2024, she was awarded the German Start-up Award as Impact Entrepreneur of the Year. From 2022 to 2024, she served on the Advisory Group of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Goalkeepers Initiative, supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Kristina’s first book, The Future of Foreign Policy is Feminist, became a bestseller, was translated into English, and brought her to international stages — from New York City to Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, London, Berlin, and Brussels. In October 2024, she published her second book, Empathy and Resistance (Ullstein Verlag). She holds two Master’s degrees from University College London and the University of Oxford, and has worked for the United Nations in New York and Yangon, a women’s rights NGO in Bogotá, and as an advisor to the German Federal Foreign Office. In 2022, she was the German face of Giorgio Armani’s Crossroads campaign, showcasing inspiring female changemakers worldwide.

Dr. Stellah Wairimu Bosire is a feminist medical doctor, lawyer, and global health leader with more than 13 years of experience advancing gender justice, health equity, and sexual and reproductive health and rights across Africa. She is the Founding Executive Director of the Africa Center for Health Systems and Gender Justice, where she mobilises gender responsive investments and drives innovation to dismantle systemic barriers that limit women’s health and economic power.

Through initiatives such as the Institute for Women’s Health and Economic Power, Dr. Bosire is pioneering a model that pairs affordable capital with skills, research, and social norm change to support women from low income households, many of them survivors of gender based violence, to build businesses, improve their health, and strengthen their communities. Her leadership demonstrates that when women gain financial power alongside accessible healthcare, their health outcomes, productivity, and wellbeing improve measurably.

She also serves as Chair of Amnesty International Kenya, Governor representing Africa at the Commonwealth Foundation, and Board Chair of CIVICUS Alliance. Previously, she co led UHAI EASHRI, was CEO of the Kenya Medical Association, and Vice Chair of the HIV/AIDS Tribunal of Kenya.

Dr. Bosire holds degrees in Medicine and Law from the University of Nairobi, an MBA in Healthcare Management from Strathmore Business School, and an MSc in Global Health Policy from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her work has earned her numerous national and international awards.

Mandy Mangler, MD, PhD, MBA is Chief Physician of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Vivantes in Berlin. She is a leading advocate for women’s health, reproductive medicine, and gender equity in healthcare. For her contributions, she has been honored with the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin and the Berlin Women’s Prize.
