Richtfest at 1014 Fifth Avenue

Today, the German Consulate in New York and its construction agency, Bundesbau Baden-Württemberg, brought together everyone behind the project — builders, craftsmen, architects, planners, partners, and neighbors — to celebrate a major milestone: the completion of the new exterior.

The Richtfest is one of those traditions with real meaning. A topping-out tree on the roof (or on the scaffolding!), ceremonial speeches, and then coming together over food and drink — all to say thank you, to mark progress, and to wish the building (and everyone connected to it) good fortune.

This one felt especially important. A huge thank you from us at 1014 to:

❄️ The construction teams for pushing through freezing winter months and tough site conditions, and the final sprint to get the windows in just in time;

👏 The planning teams for keeping everything on track, on budget, and at the highest standards;

🏛️ The Consulate General in New York, representing the Federal Republic of Germany as the owner, for their tireless support and oversight in moving the project forward.

With the exterior complete, 1014 now enters its next phase — bringing to life a beautiful interior that reflects over 100 years of trans-Atlantic legacy, while opening the space for modern use.

We can’t wait to see this historic building fully restored.
