are we okay?
In a time when it feels like the world is on fire, every new natural disaster, national tragedy, geopolitical crisis, and even positive developments become merely a blip in the 24-hour news cycle. Living through a constant stream of historical events leaves younger generations around the world overwhelmed, completely disengaged and paralyzed , or quietly asking themselves, “are we okay?” as they try to pick up the pieces and create a better future.
That uncertainty is unfolding at a moment when trans-Atlantic relationships are being tested by political division, social change, and global instability. The future of these alliances will not be shaped by institutions alone, but by the generation coming of age within them.
Through this new series, 1014 invites younger voices into the discussion as we evaluate stopgaps and solutions with interdisciplinary experts from both sides of the Atlantic. Together, we’ll find common ground and put the pieces back together with tangible grassroots efforts and agenda-shaping opportunities. While the answer to “are we okay?” might feel like a “no”, this series seeks to transform that “no” into action – “No, but we will be.”
