In atime when it feels like the world is on fire, every new natural disaster, nationaltragedy, geopolitical crisis, and even positive developments become merely ablip in the 24-hour news cycle. Living through a constant stream of historicalevents leaves younger generations around the world overwhelmed, completely disengagedand paralyzed , or quietly asking themselves, “Are we okay?” as they try topick up the pieces and create a better future.
Thatuncertainty is unfolding at a moment when trans-Atlantic relationships arebeing tested by political division, social change, and global instability. Thefuture of these alliances will not be shaped by institutions alone, but by thegeneration coming of age within them.
Throughthis new series, 1014 invites youngervoices intothe discussion aswe evaluate stopgaps and solutions with interdisciplinary experts from bothsides of the Atlantic. Together, we’ll find common ground andput the pieces back together with tangible grassroots effortsand agenda-shaping opportunities.[KD1] [JI2] While the answer to “are weokay?” might feel like a “no”, this series seeks to transform that “no” intoaction – “No, but we will be.”
